More reasons to go "tap"
We already know that bottled water consumes an enormous amount of energy to produce - and creates a tremendous amount of waste. Now the AP is reporting that bottled water isn't so pure after all.
A two year study done by the Washington-based Environmental Working Group showed high - but "acceptable" according to government standards - levels of everything from acetaminophen to strontium. They speculate that some of the chemicals leached from the plastic bottles used to hold the water. The group recommends the use of a charcoal filter for tap water as the healthiest and most environmentally sound option.
Lucky for me, I live in a city (Chicago) where the tap water is delicious. In Lubbock TX, where my mother lives, water-lovers aren't so fortunate. Wonder if a charcoal filter would remove that soapy taste?

Apparently, parent-company Clorox isn't interested, despite the recent campaign to "Take Back the Filter."

The bottom of the page lists 4 ways to get involved.
It would have been a better study if they had compared the water samples to the tap water samples in the locations that the water is bottled.
Also, regularly abundant strontium is not radioactive. Only a few isotopes of it are, but then again, carbon has a radioactive isotope, so I suppose we should avoid that also!
I have to agree with the International Bottled Water Assn in calling the findings "alarmist".
