Walking the Amazon

Ed Stafford has been Walking the Amazon for 182 days. That's almost 6 months! He's doing it to raise awareness of climate change by collecting and broadcasting the experiences of the Amazonian people that live in the Andean mountains and the Amazon rainforest.

You can follow the blog of his amazing journey here. And if you feel so moved, Ed is accepting donations to 6 very worthy charities.

Christine Attalla's Gravatar Save Your World® is demonstrating its commitment for preserving our world's natural resources by supporting and maintaining a communication channel between students and the first ever Walking the Amazon expedition to raise awareness about the effects of deforestation and the resulting climate changes in our rainforests.

Sponsoring the communication system for the Walking the Amazon program is just one of the ways Save Your World is working for the environment. "Save Your World is committed to protecting our world's natural resources," Cecil said. "A portion of the proceeds from every Save Your World product sold goes toward saving the South American rainforest. Our company pledge is: '1 Product = 1 Acre of Rainforest Saved for 1 Year®'."

"Save Your World believes that man can live in harmony with nature and that man must learn to preserve these pristine biodiverse areas in order to sustain survival for future generations and to allow them to enjoy these areas uncompromised," said Scott Cecil, president of Save Your World. "The Walking the Amazon program can assist educators by creating an exciting and real-world learning experience for students. From geology and agriculture, to anthropology and even computer education, this journey can be a strong tool that will not only educate, but will improve the awareness of treating our Earth like the vital and fragile resource that it is."

Save Your World is helping to save the rainforest through a unique and innovative leasing program, one of the first of its kind in the world. Through contributions and product sales, Save Your World helps pay the annual royalties and fees required to maintain an agreement with the Guyana Forestry Commission to protect the rainforest in its pristine state. Save Your World has already helped to protect 200,000 acres of Guyana rainforest for one year. The South American rainforest project is on the world's oldest geological rock formation and is one of the richest areas for plant and animal biodiversity. Rainforests contain about half the planet's five to 10 million plant and animal species, and harbor 70 percent or more than 2000 of the plants identified as having anti-cancer characteristics by the US National Cancer Institute.
